Order Types

Three time-in-force flags for market and limit orders. Plus stop-loss and take-profit for hands-off exits.

TL;DR

FOK = all-or-nothing market order. FAK = partial fill OK, kill the rest. GTC = sit on the book until filled or cancelled. Stop-loss and take-profit ride on top of limit orders — a background daemon fires them when price crosses your trigger.

Note

Polymarket's CLOB also has an IOC (Immediate or Cancel) flag that's functionally identical to FAK on their backend. We map IOC → FAK, so you only see three options.

Fill or Kill (FOK)

Your whole order has to fill immediately at your price or better. If the book can't absorb it, the entire thing gets cancelled — nothing executes. We auto-pick FOK for orders under $50 on regular markets where you want certainty.

Fill and Kill (FAK)

Fills whatever's available at your price right away, then cancels the remainder. You'll get a partial fill if the book can't absorb your full order — better than nothing on thin liquidity. We auto-pick FAK for orders of $50+ on regular markets, and ALWAYS for fast markets (BTC 5-min and similar) regardless of size.

Good Till Cancel (GTC)

Your order rests on the book at your price until it's fully filled or you cancel it. This is the standard limit-order behavior. GTC orders can take minutes, hours, or days. Use it when you want to set a price and wait for the market to come to you instead of crossing the spread.

Stop-loss

Pick the Limit tab on a SELL, set your trigger price below current market, and we save it as a stop-loss. A background daemon watches the order book every 2 seconds. When price crosses your trigger, it fires a FOK sell at the trigger price. You get a notification on trigger and on terminal failure (3 attempts, then we give up and tell you to exit manually).

One active stop-loss per token. Setting a new one cancels the old. Stop-losses on time-windowed markets (BTC 5-min, hourly crypto, etc.) auto-cancel after the window closes so they don't fire post-resolution on a dead book.

Take-profit

Same Limit tab, SELL side, but set your trigger price above current market. The price-watching daemon fires a sell when your target hits. Same notification + retry behavior as stop-loss.

When to use what

Market orders

FOK for small trades where you want all-or-nothing. FAK for larger trades where a partial fill is fine. The Trade panel auto-picks for you based on size.

Limit orders

GTC for patient quoting. Set a price below market for a buy or above market for a sell, and it sits on the book providing liquidity until the market comes to you. For programmatic exits while you're away from the screen, use stop-loss / take-profit instead — they execute via FOK at trigger time so you don't need the order book to cross your limit.
